I wanted to give a primer on what’s happening in Latin America — and what’s better than sharing Ben Norton’s writing and videos with you? I’m excited to read a deeper dive about what’s happening in Honduras. This morning he is reporting on the seismic events in that country, including the fraud surrounding the election and the legacy of the former president pardoned by Donald Trump.

But Ben’s work doesn’t stop there. He also warns about the broader patterns of U.S. intervention across Latin America — from economic warfare and sanctions to coups and regime change. He argues that countries like Venezuela have been targeted not only for their resources, like oil, but also because they represent a model of regional independence and South‑South cooperation — one that challenges U.S. hegemony.

Here is latest about the situation:

I wanted to add more from Ben he wrote two articles worth reading the latest on his website Geopolitical Economy Report.

His latest piece about Ecuador shows that even with a right-wing leader, voters rejected a military base. Ben’s article is titled “Big Loss for US empire: Ecuador votes to reject foreign military bases.”

It’s really great that the voters showed up and told the United States “no.” The title says it all: “Ecuador’s Trump-backed, right-wing oligarch President Daniel Noboa tried to rewrite the constitution to allow US military bases in the country. Sixty-one percent of Ecuadorians voted against it.”

This was a clear rebuke to the Trump White House and their strategy for the region.

Here is Ben on his YouTube channel discussing what happened in Ecuador:

Ben’s article about Venezuela is titled What is really happening in Venezuela? US attacks and economic situation explained.”

I recommend the read, as there is vital information we should know. Two quotes that struck me were: “Illegal US sanctions and an economic embargo … caused government revenue to shrink by a staggering 99%,” and “The only possible way I think the Venezuelan government will fall is if the US military invades Venezuela and/or wages a direct war inside Venezuelan territory.”

Latest video from Ben on the war for oil and the Venezuela situation.

I’ll be sharing more of Ben’s work in the coming days, months, and years to continue exposing U.S. hegemony and foreign malfeasance.
