By ScheerPost Staff

The fourth year of ScheerPost’s existence was a turbulent one for the world we cover. We posted for our readers more than 2,200 new stories and accrued more than 23,000 comments from readers sharing their thoughts on these articles in these past 12 months. In the last year, we had 3.5 million reads and more than one million viewers from around the world.

We covered the most critical issues in the world and did not stray away from controversy. ScheerPost writers Michael Brenner, Patrick Lawrence, Chris Hedges, Scheer Intelligence podcast host Robert Scheer, Ellen Brown, John Kiriakou and more kept readers up to date with news on human rights, militarism, corporatism, imperialism, the world of finance and more, while writers we repost such as Alan MacLeod and Noam Chomsky did the same in these top stories. While these are just 10 of our most read stories, they represent some of the most critical, important work that ScheerPost brings to our readers.

Here are our top 10 stories of the year:

  1. Michael Brenner: The West’s Reckoning?

Michael Brenner discusses how western leaders are facing defeats in Ukraine and atrocities in Palestine, yet feel no shame or humiliation. He writes that their actions highlight a path of collective self-destruction through moral, diplomatic, and economic failures, driven by panic and insecurity. As they ignore global opinions, risk escalation grows, revealing irrational behaviors detached from reality.

2. Dennis Kucinich: America Prepares for Global War and Restarts the Draft for 18-26 Year Olds

Dennis Kucinich explores how the U.S. government is advancing an automatic draft system through the National Defense Authorization Act, potentially conscripting millions for future wars. He examines concerns that arise over military profiteering and the implications of sustained conflict, emphasizing the need for public debate on wartime strategies.

    3. Alan MacLeod/Mint Press News: Amal Clooney’s Silence on Gaza Shows the Limits of Liberalism

Despite calling Ukraine a “slaughterhouse” and calling for the prosecution of Russia for war crimes, the Clooney Foundation for Justice has remained completely silent on the ongoing genocide in Gaza, writes Alan MacLeod.

    5. Noam Chomsky/Tom Dispatch: A Middle East Peace That Could Happen (But Won’t)

Noam Chomsky examines the ongoing genocide of Palestinians, highlighting the feasibility of a two-state solution, U.S.-Israeli complicity in occupation, and the ongoing suffering of Palestinians under severe restrictions and blockades.

    6. Jessica Buxbaum/Mint Press News: The Red Heifer Project: Israeli Government Part of Plan to Build Third Temple at Al-Aqsa

In recent years, Israeli government involvement in the red heifer project escalates tensions over Al-Aqsa, risking traditional status quo while supporting settler aspirations to rebuild the Third Temple, igniting fears of religious conflict in the region.

    7. Patrick Lawrence: Imperium: Decline on the Way to Fall

The piece discusses the decline of American dominance, highlighting the failures in Ukraine and the unravelling of the U.S.-led international order. It details rising multipolarity and critiques American imperialism, particularly regarding military actions in Niger and the Gaza crisis, suggesting worsening global tensions ahead.

The article critically assesses Kamala Harris’s prosecutorial record while serving as California’s district attorney and attorney general, highlighting her opposition to criminal justice reforms and alleged cover-ups of misconduct, which contrast with her self-description as a “progressive prosecutor.” Harris’s actions harmed communities of color and failed to uphold justice.

    9. Robert Scheer: Scheer Intelligence: These 10 Companies Run Our ‘Democracy’

Dr. Peter Phillips joins Scheer Intelligence host Robert Scheer to discuss how the economic trends following the COVID-19 pandemic and how the wealth concentration in the world took a dramatic turn towards the already ultra-wealthy, as well as how dire inequality is becoming.
