As the genocide in Gaza reaches its 706th day, Israel continues to pick-off corralled Palestinians desperately searching for aid, bomb what little buildings or tents remain and starve the entire population in the Gaza Strip. Though the photos featured in this piece are from past months and years, the images demonstrate a consistent pattern of mass suffering Palestinians continue to endure.

The never-ending flood of devastating videos, images and reports remind me of those I have had the privilege of making contact with in Gaza; whether it be interpersonal interactions via direct message on Instagram, a public plea for support on TikTok or a more professional relationship as I have developed with two photo journalists.

Some readers may recall our first story “From the Ground in Gaza,” where I was lucky enough to introduce the Gaza-based photojournalists, Adel Al-Hawajre and Hosni Salah. As of my present knowledge, based off communication I have received from the two of them, they are still surviving and working to document the nightmare of genocide that seems without end.

No matter where Gazans turn, north or south, hospitals or homes, rubble or tents, safezones or not, they are met with death and destruction.

In the year that has passed since the publishing of this piece, the reality in Gaza has only become more dire:

More than 1000 Palestinians have been killed whilst seeking aid. “766 of them were killed in the vicinity of GHF sites and 288 near UN and other humanitarian organisations’ aid convoys,” said UN human rights office spokesman Thameen Al-Kheetan.

At least 248 journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza, Occupied Palestinian territory and Lebanon since 2023.

Over 290 United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) aid workers have been killed.

92% of all housing units along with 70% of all structures in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed or damaged.

At least 36 hospitals have been bombed and the final functioning hospital in northern Gaza has been deemed nonoperational after an Israeli air raid

90% of Gaza’s population has been internally displaced, some more than ten times.

2.1 million Palestinians in the Strip are facing prolonged food shortages and nearly half a million people are in a catastrophic situation of hunger, acute malnutrition, starvation, illness and death, according to the World Health Organization.

More than 55,000 Palestinians have died, though some studies estimate that the actual number of those dead could be up to 41% higher than other estimates as tens of thousands are trapped under rubble or missing.

More than 50,000 children have been injured or killed.

Gaza continues to endure unimaginable suffering meanwhile 1000 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, 159 of them in 2025, including 38 children

No Palestinian within reach is spared from Israel’s aggression.

Below are more exclusive photographs obtained by ScheerPost from Salah and Al-Hawajre from the beginning of the Israeli offensive in the fall of 2023.

All photos below are original to Hawajre or Salah and given with permission to be shared on ScheerPost.

These images are an important reminder that the devastation and catastrophe that Palestinians in Gaza have endured for these last 23 months has from the start been simply that — devastating and catastrophic.

Al-Hawajre reached out to me at the end of April of this year with more photos for us to share of what was supposed to be a great return home following the ceasefire brokered in January. In the months since his sending of the photos, their situation has only gotten worse.

Following Israel’s breaking of the ceasefire in a surprise attack on March 18, 2025 and resuming of full fighting, many were displaced once again. Al-Hawajre wanted this short-lived return to be seen through the photos in two separate axes, the first being the return home to the north and the second being the long march back to the south to alleged safezones.

“This is the first axis: the return of the displaced from the south to the north,” Al-Hawajre wrote about the photos below.

All photos are original to Adel Hawajre and given with permission to be shared on Scheer Post.

“This is the second axis: the forced displacement of displaced persons from the north to the south,” Al-Hawajre continued.

Al-Hawajre wrote to me, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart, my wonderful friend. So proud to know you and be close to you.”

Al-Hawajre writes to the world:

“Hello dear friends.

I’m Adel from Gaza, a journalist. I lost everything I own: my home, my cameras, and my memories. This campaign is to support me and my family.

I hope you’ll support me, help me, or share it with your friends so I can make up for a part of my life before this genocide we’ve been subjected to for 600 days. Campaign link in bio”
