As Israel dramatically escalates its military campaign across Lebanon, civilians are once again caught between bombardment, displacement orders, and a collapsing shelter system. Reporting from Beirut, journalist Lylla Younes describes how families across the country are fleeing their homes amid relentless airstrikes and a widening ground conflict between Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah.

In the eastern Bekaa Valley village of Tamnin Al-Tahta, residents spent nights awake listening to warplanes and waiting for evacuation warnings. The fear intensified after a deadly Israeli commando raid on the nearby town of Nabi Chit triggered heavy clashes and dozens of deaths. Since the latest escalation began, hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced across Lebanon while strikes have hit areas far beyond the southern border region, including parts of Beirut.

“I lived through 2006 and I lived through the war in 2024, but the conditions today are harder than everything that happened in the past 25 years,”

The following excerpt, originally published by Drop Site News, details how civilians are navigating the latest phase of a conflict that analysts warn could drag on for months, leaving much of Lebanon struggling to absorb a growing humanitarian crisis.

More than 500,000 people in Lebanon have been displaced in just one week as the Israel Defense Forces escalate airstrikes and ground operations across the country, including strikes in the heart of Beirut. Lebanese officials say hundreds have been killed — including dozens of children — as the conflict with Hezbollah intensifies following the wider regional war involving Iran.

The surge in fighting has forced hundreds of thousands into shelters or onto the roads, raising fears of a deepening humanitarian crisis as the war spreads across the region. Al Jazeera is also reporting that Haneen Sayed told a press briefing on Sunday that the total number of people registered as displaced on a website affiliated with the ministry reached 517,000, including 117,228 in government shelters, since fighting in Lebanon resumed on Monday.
