The Trump administration rushed to deny responsibility when reports emerged that a girls’ elementary school in Iran had been obliterated during U.S. and Israeli strikes. Officials suggested the explosion may have been caused by a stray Iranian rocket. But the evidence tells a very different story.

“This is another instance of Trump lying and just talking out of his ass,” said a U.S. government official who reviewed satellite images of the Shajarah Tayyebeh school.

According to reporting by The Intercept, former U.S. military officials who reviewed the strike say the attack bears the unmistakable signature of a U.S. operation — precise, deliberate, and carried out with munitions that only the United States uses. Satellite imagery and strike patterns, they say, show the compound — including the school — was hit multiple times over several hours.

“All evidence,” said the former official, “points to the compound being repeatedly attacked — over the course of a couple hours potentially — with highly accurate munitions that we know the U.S. and Israel routinely use and have used in strikes across Iran.”

“This munition is only employed by the U.S., not Israel or Iran,” said Wes Bryant, a former Special Operations joint terminal attack controller who called in thousands of strikes across the greater Middle East.

In other words, this wasn’t an accident, and it wasn’t Iranian friendly fire. It looks like a calculated strike followed by a familiar Washington ritual: deny, deflect, and hope the public looks away before the truth settles in.
