Glenn Greenwald: What Americans Must Urgently Learn from Brazil

Chris Hedges talks to the journalist Glenn Greenwald on this week’s “On Contact” about his reporting exposing the corruption among Brazil’s political, judicial and economic elite. Greenwald was able to show through a trove of documents how the current Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro and his crypto-fascist party manipulated the legal system, with the connivance of federal anti-corruption judge Sergio Moro, and were able to discredit and eliminate Bolsonaro’s political rival, former two-term president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the leader of the Workers’ Party. These revelations – The Secret Brazil Archive – published just after Bolsonaro’s inauguration in 2019, led to repeated death threats against Greenwald, his children and his family, with threats of criminal investigation and prosecution. Greenwald’s new book is “Securing Democracy: My Fight for Press Freedom and Justice in Bolsonaro’s Brazil.”

  1. Greenwald also had an interview with Jimmy Dore earlier this week discussing this at length. I look forward to Chris Hedges’ input especially so.

  2. Two men you could learn a lot from. Not just because they are pretty much the entirety of true leftest journalism in the west, but also for their moral and ethical reporting, regardless of the consequences or cost to themselves. In a world of universal deceit, they almost alone are willing to stand up to the powers that rule and confront the real issues and problems that plague this society and this world. Respect. Also thanks to Robert Sheer for creating a space where they can publish their work free from the clutches of our ever more insidious corporate media, which more and more resembles Orwell’s Ministry of Truth every day. It is good to have a new place to find real journalism with integrity.
