The Trump administration’s crackdown on free media is not a theoretical danger: It is a clear and present death sentence. The first salvos are aimed at the vulnerable flanks of independent media outlets like ScheerPost, possessed of a fierce and effective spirit of resistance but with meager legal and other resources to fight back.
In this environment, a small, stubborn, and principled operation like ours becomes not just a source of news but a bunker for the very concept of a free media. When the powerful seek to silence all dissent, the independent voice doesn’t become less important — it becomes essential.
We refuse to give up. In the dark age of Trump and his minions, our brand of independent journalism is needed now more than ever. One way or another, we will keep ScheerPost alive. Our editor and publisher will continue to work pro bono, an obligation borne after their combined 80 years of journalism at the Los Angeles Times and other publications. But our terrific staff members we have been mentoring need to pay their rent.
To be able to keep paying our staff, our original writers, and other expenses, ScheerPost needs help to make it to the end of the year. We would be deeply grateful if you could make a tax-deductible donation at our Network For Good page found here and through the donation button below.
Thank you,
Robert Scheer, Publisher
Narda Zacchino, Editor
